learning outcome #3

I chose three annotated pages from David Foster Wallace’s “Consider the Lobster” This was my first annotation ever. During highschool we never annotated anything, I honestly didn’t even know what annotating was until coming to University Of New England. I heard my friends talking about doing it during the first semester and how annoying it was to do. I think that it is extremely helpful to annotate so I can remember all of the important parts of the essay we are reading. At the  beginning of annotating I would just highlight what I thought was important but as I got used to it I started writing within the text. I would  write little sections on how I wanted to incorporate that quote into my future essay. I think annotations are very helpful and important because they really make it so easy to understand the paper in the long run. In high school I would search through the pages of the essay to find a good quote but now with annotations it is helpful because I already have all the important things highlighted or underlined. If I was writing a specific paragraph about something that I remember reading about then I can just scan through until I find the quote I was talking about. Then I can move forwards and integrate the said quote into my paper. The pictures of the annotations I made were at the beginning of my annotation process so they do not have much depth to them but I think it shows how I have grown as a writer.
